Earlier this week, there was a case of a food delivery rider attacking a female staff at a cafe in Penang after he found out that he had been replaced to deliver an order to a customer. Unfortunately, that isn’t the only case of local riders misbehaving.
It’s important to make sure your food and items arrive exactly as how you ordered them as this rider was recently caught stealing other people’s orders after dropping off his customer’s order.
In a now-deleted CCTV footage posted by user @AkeemSharyzal on Twitter, a Grab rider was first seen parking his motorcycle outside a building’s lobby area before entering with a customer’s order in his hands. He made his way into the lobby and placed the plastic bag onto a table designated for food delivery drop-off.
Several other orders in plastic bags left by other riders were spotted on the table. The rider was caught looking through them before taking one of those bags in his hands and walking out of the building. It is currently unknown if the rider took the food to earn some extra cash or if he took them for himself. It is said that there was a moment of hesitation before he committed the theft, which indicated that he was fully aware of his actions.
Netizens reacted to the post with many condemning the rider for stealing other customers’ orders while others shared that they had similar experiences of riders stealing their food after completing the delivery.
As seen in the screenshots above, Grab has been made aware of the situation and is currently investigating the incident. At the time of writing, there is currently no update on whether the rider has been apprehended or if there were any compensations made to the customers’ stolen items.
After this incident, you might want to consider waiting in the lobby or outside before your rider arrives to make sure they don’t do any funny business.
