Mercedes-Benz Malaysia recently staged its fifth installment of the highly-anticipated annual fashion event, the Mercedes-Benz FashionWeek KL 2023 (MBFWKL). With the theme “Electric is the Attitude”, this year’s runway showcased fashion-forward designs that intertwined luxury with sustainability.
We had the pleasure to witness the electrifying runway looks from Day 2 of MBFWKL, from designers such as Dickson Lim, Ivan Young, Cahaya Studios and Kree. Here are some of the best looks from the unforgettable event.
Dickson Lim
The first thing that came to mind when we saw Dickson Lim’s name on the lineup were structured silhouettes with a splash of unconventional flair, and as expected, he delivered that and so much more. This vibrant blue suit with the waist cut-outs were one of the many fabulous silhouettes that stood out to us. It’s giving business on the top, party at the bottom with the glamorous flared pants (which were featured in many of the suit-looks) that swayed elegantly as the model strutted down the runway.
Why use both hands when you can just use… well, one? This look features an interesting suit jacket that only has one side of the sleeve out. Definitely one of the most intriguing looks on the runway, but the wrap-around sleeve may be a turnoff for the right-handed people out there.
While the pleated details on the side and the long flowy scarf were definitely what drew us in, it was the pleated leather trousers that sold us.
Another cut-out suit jacket, this look is giving a bit of Thom Browne with the pleated dress layered over the flared pants.
Ivan Young
Ivan Young brings our wildest dreams to life with his stunning gowns adorned with ostrich feathers and gorgeous details that made the runway seem otherworldly. This one in particular caught our eyes thanks to the dramatic cape that flowed beautifully as the model walked down the runway.
Mixing a bit of form with some flair, this look blends Ivan Young’s quintessential flamboyant details, such as the feathers and silk with a structured look.
Did you hear someone say… GLAMAZON? This is a quintessential Ivan Young look. The feathery cape and floor-length gown takes this ensemble to another level.
While this look is much simpler compared to the long gowns that the label is known for, it still manages to bring some DRAMA to the runway.
Cahaya Studios
Cahaya Studios surprised us with some minimal yet sophisticated looks… and lots and lots of pleats. We felt like we were transported to a dystopian land when the models strutted down the runway. From the pleated cape to the sheer top to the pleated pants, and of course, the model’s gorgeous locks, we were hooked by this look.
Sheer tops should become a staple in everyone’s wardrobe. Periodt.
The theme is business casual with some attitude and whole lot of STYLE! From the pleated jacket to the bralette, we loved everything about this look.
If there’s one thing to know about Cahaya Studios, it’s that they’re an expert in creating interesting textures – this one in particular was our favourite.
Kree
Kree’s form-fitting silhouettes and vibrant colorways bring chic BAWSE realness to the runway. The bright suit jacket’s shoulder pads and cinched waist gave this ensemble a lovely hourglass silhouette.
The dramatic lantern sleeves and sheer pink material that reflected the light beautifully as the model moved down the catwalk added a whole lot of SASS to the everyday silhouette.
This design reminded us of the iconic office lady look from the 1980s and 1990s. The vivid emerald green look contrasted beautifully with the earthy warm tones of the rest of the ensemble.
