In the wake of the ongoing drama surrounding Singaporean comedian Jocelyn Chia, a group of drivers from the BMW Car Club Singapore recently came under fire after they were spotted taking up the entire Penang Bridge with their convoy.

Facebook page We are Malaysians shared a video taken from the incident over the weekend, which quickly went viral online. In the clip, the BMW drivers were obviously seen taking up not just the two lanes on the bridge, but also the emergency lane! It was reported that the convoy ended up causing up to one hour of traffic delay in the area.

“BMW Car Club Singapore, Mega Meet at Penang. Blocking the whole bridge, causing a traffic jam for one hour plus,” the caption reads. Needless to say, many local netizens didn’t react too kindly to this. Most of them took to the comments section to put the car club on blast. Others also called for the authorities to take strict action against them.

Not long after the clip went viral, the Seberang Perai Selatan Police Headquarters revealed that they have summoned the group. “The police have received a report on this incident and an investigation paper has been opened under the Traffic Act 1959 under Section 16(1) LN 166/59 for obstruction of traffic. On 11th June 2023 at 12:10am, all the drivers involved were present at the Seberang Perai Selatan Police Headquarters and have been summoned,” they shared in their statement.

After facing massive backlash, the car club has also apologised for their actions. “We, BMW Car Club Singapore are aware of some viral videos which consist of our Penang Drive lately. We sincerely apologise and acknowledge a mistake that was made on our part and to reassure everyone of our unwavering commitment to cooperate with the local authorities.”

“We have taken full responsibility for the recent oversight by working closely with the local authorities as soon as we heard of the news. Rest assured that we have rectified the situation and the investigation is now closed,” they added. “Moving forward, we are implementing additional measures to enhance our processes to ensure better control. We are committed to continuous improvement and are actively reviewing our plans to prevent similar occurrences in the future.”
