Be careful who you befriend, especially online. You can meet a variety of people online, and among the variety, the risk of meeting someone with bad intentions is no less than in real life. Even if that someone you met online turned out to be a good-looking person, don’t let their looks fool you.
Recently, a local man from Klang claimed that he was blackmailed by a beauty he met online. The woman had apparently recorded naked video calls between the two of them and used them against the 35-year-old.
Having met online through Facebook early February, the pretty woman and victim instantly clicked in a short period of time. What started out as normal conversations immediately ‘upgraded’ to those of more than friends. According to the victim, they would chat naked on video calls with each other, and the two parties will share intimate sexual acts like masturbations and sexual teasing through the screen.
It never crossed the victim’s mind that the other side was recording their whole ‘intimate session’ to later blackmail him with it. Fortunately, the victim did not make any payments in regards to the other party’s blackmail. It was reported that the scammer even hacked into the man’s phone and stole information on his identity. Photos of his Malaysian ID along with his naked photos were then shared through messages with the intention to defame him.
The defamation message claimed that the victim deceived a youth and a single divorced woman by recording their video sex which led to the woman taking her own life. There were also mentions that the woman is currently receiving emergency treatment in the hospital and requests for people to share the message to their loved ones, which all seemed like professional tactics.
The other party even stole the victim’s contact list when she hacked into his phone. At least 5 of his contacts received the above message, which include a 1 minute 31 seconds naked video of the man and a provocative message attached to it. “…I would like to have sex with you… I will give you all the pleasure, let’s agree on a date to meet and rent a hotel room! I believe I can make you experience pleasure like never before…”
Authorities are hoping to raise awareness on scams like these through the victim’s experience, and warned the public to be careful to not fall into the scammer’s trap, no matter how beautiful or handsome the other party is.
