We’ve all seen the videos of celebrities flaunting their outfits while going through aisles and rows of luxury purses. While it may appear excessive to some, a good quality handbag is sometimes a better investment than a car or a house. Yes, many designer fashion pieces will lose value as they collect dust in your closet, but certain handbags from high fashion designer companies will stand the test of time.
The data team at online discount platform WeThrift examined which handbags acquired the most resale value when resold on verified resale marketplaces, according to a new study. They compared the original RRP of the handbags to the prices listed on the reselling portals Farfetch, Vestiaire Collection, and The Handbag Clinic. Without further ado, here are the luxury handbags with the highest resell value:
In first place, the luxury handbag that gained the most resale value is the 1991 Mini Kelly by Hermès. Known for its sleek, timeless design, the bag has a resale price of a whopping £34,995 (RM186,369). Hermès initially sold it for £6,159 (RM32,797), with a 468% growth in value, resulting in a very successful return on investment.
The Chanel 2.55 handbag comes in second position because of the quilting on the purse, which exudes grandeur and style, which is why the item has an excellent resale price of £6,862. (RM36,518). The bag was originally retailed for £3,360, but when resold, it yielded more than double its price, with a 104% gain in market value, making it a worthy contender for second place.

In third place was 3.1 Philip Lim’s 2015 Alix Chain Crossbody Bag, with an increase in value of 78%, jumping from the initial retail price of £415 (RM2,210) to £739.20 (RM3,936). The Chanel Classic Single Flap takes the fourth place, boasting a resale price of £6,018.95 (RM32,066) – the bag was originally sold for (RM29,274), which is an increase of 9.54% in value since its release.
