When dining at a restaurant, good food is not enough. Service has to be top-notch and cleanliness is definitely important for customers to fully enjoy their dining experience. It’s important for restaurants to regularly do quality and safety checks to avoid getting customers sick from their meals.

We had an incident where a woman discovered mould in her Zus Coffee cake earlier this year. Prior to that, actress Sweet Qismina called out Sushi King for their alleged irresponsible behaviour after a customer found cockroaches in their meal. It looks like Sushi King is under fire again after a customer discovered something revolting at the restaurant.

TikTok user @dyrasalleh or Dyra Salleh posted a video of her unfortunate experience at a Sushi King restaurant earlier this week on Wednesday (21st December). In the video, the TikToker showed a Shushi King Shoyu bottle where, upon closer inspection, a few maggots can be seen moving around at the wall of the bottle. Unfortunately for the customer, she had already finished eating before noticing something peculiar in the bottle.

The video went viral and has now reached 1.1 million views, 23.6k likes, and 2.7k comments. Dyra posted a follow-up video as a response to a netizen’s comment who advised her to speak with the staff instead of making the situation go viral. The customer clarified that she did speak to a staff member but felt like they weren’t taking the issue seriously.

Netizens were absolutely disgusted after seeing the maggots in the Shoyu bottle. Some netizens claimed to be former Sushi King employees and explained that these bottles are meant to be washed daily before refilling them. Others were asking which outlet this incident took place but Dyra has yet to give an answer.

After the two videos went viral, Sushi King released a statement yesterday (Thursday, 22nd December) to address the hygiene issue. “We have reached out to the affected customer and sincerely apologised for the matter. We take full responsibility and apologise if this incident has caused any concerns among all our loyal customers,” the statement reads.

The food brand also informed that the incident has been reported to the Ministry of Health (MOH) and will cooperate with the authorities to take necessary actions. Read the full statement below:
