The magnificent watch house – Longines – was launched in Saint-Imier, Switzerland in 1832 by Auguste Agassiz. Longines has been around for so many years that they were the official formal timer at the Olympic Games as many as 14 times, counting the opening games presented in Athens in 1896!
It’s an impressive feat indeed to witness Longines reaching this incredible milestone of 190 years! They have created such a solid legacy and we can’t wait to see what’s in store. Last week, the Longines family and celebrity friends in Malaysia joined together to wish a happy birthday to the brand.
To celebrate 190 years of history, Longines hosted an exclusive event. The event brought together numerous notable guests including actor-singer Alvin Chong, celebrity couple Aiman Hakim and Zahirah Macwilson, actress Tong Bing Yu; as well as pop duo Fu Ying and Sam, amongst others – who were in attendance to celebrate this significant milestone.
The event at The Exchange 106, TRX also gave guests the chance to admire some of the greatest iconic pieces from the Longines’ historic collection. These watches are usually stored at the Longines Museum in Saint-Imier, Switzerland but were flown in for this special occasion. These exceptional pieces dated way back from the 19th century and are now well worth more than you can imagine.
Before the celebration came to an end, guests raised their glasses in honour of Longines’ past, present, and future as the brand continues its quest for precision with an aesthetic standard that still underpins its identity today.
The Longines celebrations didn’t end with this event; they also included an amazing display at the entrance of Starhill Gallery Kuala Lumpur. The 190th Longines Anniversary exhibition, which is on display until 27th November, explores the brand’s rich history and evolution since 1832. Visitors are taken on a trip through the brand’s significant turning points and ongoing development over the ages.
A special video featuring Longines’ family and friends, who joined their voices to wish a happy birthday to Longines was also played during the dinner. The simple 1-minute-45-second video is a collage of their special wishes and songs to the brand. We at Hype too wish Longines a happy 190th birthday!
