Being famous usually means that you are an easy target for harsh criticism from not only haters but fans as well. Everything you do will not satisfy everyone and people will always try to look for something wrong with you. That’s one price to pay for being in the spotlight.
When a person can’t find or think of anything wrong with someone, they usually resort to body shaming. Malaysian celebrities have always been a victim of this shameful act but some of them are taking a stand and calling the haters out. Here are 5 local celebs that have been body shamed:
1. Dato Fazley Yaakob
Starting off our list is the most recent celeb to be body shamed, Dato Fazley Yaakob. The celebrity chef posted a screenshot of someone who commented on his body size on his Instagram yesterday (Wednesday, 25th May). The 44-year-old replied to the comment, “have you ever been smacked by a chopping board?”.
It might do them good to smack some sense into them, no?
2. Janna Nick
Janna Nick recently shared her experience with being body shamed in an Instagram video. The actress revealed that the online abuse has lead her to consider going under the knife to lose weight. In her video, she vows to prove that she can lose weight by working out. The “Gatal” singer ended the video urging everyone to not body shame others. “It’s not cool!”, she said.
3. Sharifah Sakinah
Actress Sharifah Sakinah is no stranger to controversies and has always got people talking about her. Seems like whenever she post something on her Instagram, both fans and haters will have something to say about it. Just last year, the 32-year-old fired back at haters who commented about the size of her breast.
Earlier this week, netizens attacked the actress for showing off her figure in a recent Instagram post. Many condemned her for exposing her bare skin and one even commented saying, “The body you are displaying will be burnt in hell 🔥🔥.”
4. Nabila Huda
“M4M4” leading actress Nabila Huda once issued a stern warning last year against those who gave harsh comments about her body weight and size. The 37-year-old posted on her Instagram admitting that although she may be overweight, she is very happy with her life as she’s happily married with kids and is an award-winning actress.
5. Shiqin Kamal
Shiqin Kamal has been body shamed by a fellow celeb. The actress once posted in her Insta story calling out a local comedian who called her fat in her DMs. In her post, the “Lagenda Budak Setan” star said she just wanted the “Maharaja Lawak” contestant to get to know her fans. She also mentioned that she will not hesitate to expose anyone who sends her these kind of hurtful messages.
1. Mimi Lana
You’d think that posting work out photos or videos would have people supporting you living a healthy lifestyle. Unfortunately for Mimi Lana, she got the opposite reaction. The model-turned-actress received some hateful comments on her now deleted video saying that she was too skinny. So far, the “Saka Nan Sepi” star has not spoken about the incident.
2. Aaron Chia
While most celebs received online abuse, Malaysian badminton player Aaron Chia (谢定峰) had someone body shamed him out in the open. When the 2019 SEA Games gold medalist arrived at Setia City Centre, someone in the crowd, who claimed to be a fan, called him, “ugly, fat!”. Although the athlete himself has never spoken about the incident, netizens from both Malaysia and Indonesia came to his defense.
