Planning your holiday in advance can save you a lot of time and money. Flight tickets would not be as expensive and you can always pay a deposit when booking your stay at a nice hotel. Early booking is the way to go so that once you arrived at your hotel, all you need to do is just check in.
However, unexpected things can still happen which is why it’s always good to have a back-up plan. But what would you do if the hotel you’re supposed to stay at for your holiday told you that your room is no longer available? These hotel guests experienced just that at a hotel in Penang.
@fayyeyo Tak kisah lah kau nak jual bilik kitorang kat sesiapa pun tapi at least compensate and cari kan kami hotel lah kalau rasa bersalah. Bukan buat d0n0 je tak ada solution macam ni 😑 #royalechulanpenang #fyp #fypmalaysia @royalechulanpenang @Booking.com
A series of videos were posted on TikTok by user @sizukaachan where we can see a group of unsatisfied hotel guests complaining at the front desk at Royale Chulan Penang Hotel. The first video gained 582k views, 15.9k likes and over 1k comments. According to the second video, which now has over 200k views, the hotel apparently sold their rooms to a VIP’s son’s wedding guests without informing them.
@sizukaachan uploaded follow-up videos updating her followers on the issue. At first, the guests, who were basically strangers to one another, found it odd that all of their rooms were unavailable despite each of them booked online in advance and that there were no notification of cancellation. That’s when they found out their rooms have been sold by the hotel.
Police officers arrived to the hotel to investigate the situation while being surrounded by angered guests. It is currently unknown whether or not they’ve provided any assistance. Netizens reacted to the TikTok videos commenting that the hotel should’ve compensated by providing them another room or help find another hotel. Some even went as far as to give the hotel a 1 star rating on Google Reviews.

There has been no further updates by TikTok user @sizukaachan on the situation so far. Royale Chulan Penang Hotel have yet to issue an official statement and apology and there’s also no investigation updates from local authorities. Let’s hope these guests managed to find a place to stay and still enjoy their holiday.
