“I Have To Sell My Nasi Tomato For RM10 Now”: Food Vendors Forced To Increase Prices At Ramadan Bazaar

Ramadan is the time where we would take the opportunity to buy delicious food at the nearest bazaar. Bazaars during Ramadan offers a lot more food that you don’t get to see all year round and some stalls even offer special promotions.

But with the increase of price for raw materials, some of these business owners have no choice but to increase the prices of some of their dishes from their usual price. What do the people think?

As reported by Harian Metro, some of these food vendors need to find ways to make better income as the prices for raw materials have gone up. Sticking to their usual prices could result in them not making enough to cover business capital.

“I have to sell the ‘nasi tomato’ with 1-quarter of a chicken for RM10 now. Previously I sold it for RM8. This increase is due to the cost of expensive raw materials and that suppliers of the chicken and beef purchased raised the prices of the two raw materials,” one vendor said. He also added it’s even more difficult when the supplies are not available so he’d have to find them at multiple wholesale markets in order for him to continue selling his ‘nasi tomato’.

Netizens on Facebook also shared their thoughts on the matter. Some are complaining about the price increase and say that it’s just better to cook whatever it is you have at home. Some are reminding others that the issue is not the vendors fault as they too need to make ends meet.

This increase in food prices has caused locals to reconsider buying their favourite food and dishes because of the price increase. Luckily, most people are not blaming the vendors for the price increase. Some even say that the increase isn’t that much if it’s only ranging from RM0.50 to RM2.

Despite the price increase situation, everyone is still glad that things are slowly getting back to normal as we haven’t had a big Ramadan bazaar in so long. Let’s hope these stall owners can still make enough to cover business capitals and that the general public can help them however they can afford to.
