The world has August Zang to thank for the invention of one of the best bread out there; the croissants. For those who don’t know, the croissant is an adaptation from the plainer form of kipferl when August Zang, an Austrian artillery officer, founded a Viennese bakery at 92, rue de Richelieu in Paris.

But we’re not here for the history lesson. Since the birth of croissants, variations of it has made its way to different parts of the world but if you can’t afford to travel to taste croissants everywhere, then here are places in KL where they serve the best croissants.

1. NEA Fine Bake

Best Seller: Asian-ish Flavour Croissants

Time: 8am – 9pm (Tuesday – Sunday)

Location: 12, Jalan Anggerik Vanilla 31/93, Kota Kemuning, 40460 Shah Alam, Selangor

An artisan bakery cafe that specialises in croissant. Instead of the old classic butter-ish croissant (which they do sell by the way), Nea Fine Bakes likes to play around with different flavours so you can always expect something new from them.

While croissants may be French, Nea Fine’s best sellers are their Asian-ish Flavour Croissants: Salted Egg Croissant, Yam (“Orh Nee”) Croissant and “Bor Lor” Croissant.

2. Flakes

Time: 9:30am – 6pm (Daily)

Location:  B-G-06, The Hub SS2, 19 Sentral, Jalan Harapan, Seksyen 19, 46300 Petaling Jaya, Selangor

Nothing like fresh from the oven and here at Flakes, they only serve fresh-baked croissants everyday! A perfect and tasty snack during cold or rainy weather. You can almost imagine the aroma and taste. If it’s cold or if you like it to be extra hot, you may request from their staff to heat up the croissants for you!

3. Maison Des Pains

If savouring authentic French breads and pastries bring a spring to your steps, then you can always fall in #loafatfirstsight at Maison Des Pains. You get to choose from a variety of croissants such as Almond, Beef bacon & cheese, Cheese and Double chocolate.

4. Kona Bake House

Location: 49, Jalan ss2/30, SS 2, 47300 Petaling Jaya, Selangor

Kona is the Japanese word for powder or flour and Kona Bakehouse is not one to shy away from mixing up the ingredients to make something delicious. Combining both Japanese and French culture, you would get their best seller which is the Matcha Almond Mochi Croissant!

5. Dou Dou Bake

Time: 8am – 4:30am

Location: 15, Jln SS22/11, Damansara Jaya, 47400 Petaling Jaya, Selangor

There was so much to choose from for this list and Wild Yeast Bakery Cafe had to be included. Their story started with a bassoonist that fell in love with sourdough and started specialising in sourdough bread.

Their Almond Croissant is one of their best-selling pastries that they started making more of them due to high demand! Makes you curious enough to want to try it right?

9. Kenny Hills Bakers

Time: 8am – 6pm

Location: 241-B, Lorong Nibong, Off Jalan Ampang, 50450 Kuala Lumpur.

Started back in 2015 as a tiny 15-seater shop-lot in the suburban, unassuming neighbourhood of Bukit Tunku, baking no more than 10 types of breads and pastries a day.

Now they’ve expanded to 3 outlets throughout KL, and have served thousands of customers. It’s no surprise that Kenny Hills has got many loyal customers especially when they serve their best-selling Nutella Croissant!

10. The Dough Factory

Location:  W.P, 32, Jalan Gangsa SD 5/3b, Bandar Sri Damansara, 52200 Kuala Lumpur, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur

Last but certainly not least on our list. According to a review by EatDrinkKL, The Dough Factory succeeds in nailing the fundamentals, with croissants and pain au chocolate that remain fresh, flaky-crisp and fragrant-buttery enough for a teatime treat.
