Ever since the second phase of MCO in April, local telcos have been providing free 1GB internet data on a daily basis.

Here comes the good news: Instead of being limited from 8am to 6pm, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has announced that the free 1GB data will be available throughout the day.

Celcom, Digi, Maxis, U Mobile, and Telekom Malaysia will extend their daily data of 1GB till the end of the year, on 31st December 2020. All postpaid and prepaid customers will now get to enjoy the free data longer than 10 hours per day.

Having said that, do note that the free 1GB data is only applicable for productivity and education-related platforms or services. That means you’ll have to use your regular data for social media sites (Facebook, Instagram) and streaming platforms (YouTube, Netflix, JOOX, Spotify, Apple Music).

But fret not, you’ll get to enjoy the free data for apps like Gerak Malaysia, MySejahtera and MyTrace, as well as news sites Ministry of Health (MOH) and World Health Organisation (WHO).
