It’s finally Jang Hyunseung’s (장현승) turn to make a comeback!
On Monday (5th June), an industry insider revealed that the former B2ST (otherwise known as BEAST, 비스트) member will return to the K-Pop scene as a solo artiste in early July.
The insider also added, “Hyunseung’s musical talent is not lacking compared to his hyungs (Highlight members). This will be an album to let his abilities bloom. He has his own musical colour, so this album will be completely his own.”
While the idol singer made his debut as a member of B2ST in 2009, he first gained media attention when he appeared in BIGBANG’s pre-debut documentary along with members G-Dragon, T.O.P, Taeyang, Daesung, and Seungri. Hyunseung, who auditioned for YG Entertainment at 15, was cut from the group in the final elimination round. He’s also one half of the duo Trouble Maker with CUBE Entertainment labelmate HyunA (former 4Minute member).
Last year, Hyunseung, who released his first solo album in 2015, was heavily criticised for his apparent lack of manners and bad behaviour. Apparently, he was seen ignoring lyrics, dancing without passion, and singing in the wrong tone during performances. The 27-year-old singer even missed several fan events.
CUBE confirmed his departure in August 2016. They said, “Jang Hyunseung and the 5 members have differing opinions in terms of music, which had resulted in changes in the team after much consultation and discussion.”
After Hyunseung left the group, the remaining members of B2ST, whose contracts with CUBE ended on 15th October 2016, re-debuted as Highlight under their own label, Around Us Entertainment.
