The “Fear Factor” series is making a comeback!
MTV announced the revival of the series yesterday (Wednesday, 12th April), with the new installment to be hosted by rapper and actor Ludacris. Acknowledging the flaws of the original series (read: gross-out challenges), it will be custom-created for their Generation Z audience.
Aiming for their contestants to face their fears, the all-new “Fear Factor” will be filled with new stunts inspired by urban legends, popular scary movies, as well as viral videos. Participants will be paired up into 4 teams, regardless if they’re siblings, college rivals, roommates, best friends, colleagues, or exes. It is in these team that they will take on some of their biggest stressors with the main aim of winning 50 thousand dollars of cold hard cash.
In talking about the revival, Chris McCarthy, president for MTV, said, “MTV is about celebrating youth culture, and with the reinvented ‘Fear Factor’, we are putting the power in our audience’s hands to face and overcome their biggest fears. We are thrilled to partner with Ludacris, one of the biggest global stars who has a rich history with MTV, to energize this franchise for a whole new generation.”
The first episode be broadcasted on 30th May, with 11 more episodes slated to air every subsequent Tuesday. Each episode will last one hour.
