BTS is in hot water for plagiarism – again!
This time, the Bangtan Boys are accused of copying BIGBANG rapper T.O.P for their performance at the 6th GAON Chart Music Awards on Wednesday (22nd February). According to VIPs (as BIGBANG’s fans are lovingly known), the group’s “no signal” stage setup and concept is the same as T.O.P’s “Act Like Nothing’s Wrong” solo performances.
Fans are of course equally divided on the issue. While VIPs are demanding an apology with the hashtag, #노_시그널_사과해주세요 (meaning #No_Signal_Please apologise), ARMYs (as BTS’ fans are lovingly known) claim that VIPs are just overreacting.
A netizen pointed out, “Everyone defending BTS didn’t even bother to watch the videos. You see, if they had used only the no signal screen, OK, it passes, it’s been used a lot, no big deal. BUT they copied everything! The screen, the ‘No signal’ words in the same colour and font in the same location.”

According to All Kpop, this is not the first time BTS is accused of plagiarising BIGBANG. Last May, one netizen shared side-by-side comparisons of the 2 groups. The netizen wrote, “Source is from Twitter. I’m a BIGBANG fan and I’ve held a deep interest in BTS. Their reaction was great during award ceremonies and they even went to (BIGBANG’s) concert. But am I really the only one who sees the similarities? Yeah…you’d all give me thumbs down and call me an idiot.”
One of the photos shows the 2 groups running on a green field, looking dapper in suits:
Another features G-Dragon and V donning similar outfits and hairstyles:
Besides that, SHINee fans also claimed that BTS’ “Young Forever”, taken from the “The Most Beautiful Moment In Life” trilogy, album artworks are too similar to SHINee’s 2014 Japanese album.
