Jedi, the cat is out of the bag.
Moments ago, the official Star Wars Twitter account posted up an update confirming the title for the upcoming American epic space opera franchise.
It's official. STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI is the next chapter of the Skywalker saga. This December. #TheLastJedi https://t.co/ySkVwQcMTP pic.twitter.com/eHrPgbsRJq

Yes, the next chapter has a name – “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”.
If you remember, the late Carrie Fisher (the actress better known for her role as Princess Leia in the earlier “Star Wars” films) previously shared a strangely adorable working title for “Star Wars: Episode VIII”. One that said “Space Bear: Episode VIII”.
Although “Star Wars” fans around the globe were utterly devastated by news of her death, Carrie Fisher reportedly wrapped up filming for “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” before her passing in December 2016.

As per usual, the plot for the upcoming “Star Wars” film, the sequel to 2015’s “Star Wars Episode VII” aka “Star Wars: The Force Awakens“, is still being kept tightly under wraps. But fans are expecting a couple of things (perhaps answers to some burning questions from “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”?) from the movie.
For starters, there have been many theories about the relationship between Rey (played by Daisy Ridley) and Luke Skywalker (played by “Star Wars” alumni Mark Hamill). Fans also want to see how Kylo Ren’s (Leia and Han Solo’s son, played by Adam Driver) character will play out in “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” after killing his own father and barely surviving the lightsaber showdown with Rey.
Oh, and will Rey begin her training as a Jedi with Luke on Ahch-To?
One thing’s for sure though, the focus will be on what’s been going on with Luke Skywalker and what he has been up to since his disappearance. “I’m approaching it with a take that I hope feels honest and real and is going to be interesting to folks and make sense,” director Rian Johnson was quoted as saying in a interview with USA Today.
There’s a thick shroud of mystery surrounding his journey, after all.
Also, during a “Star Wars” celebration panel back in July 2017, Rian mentioned that “Star Wars: Episode VIII” will zoom in on each character and get to the heart of them. Just throwing in an educated guess here based on what has been revealed – we should probably be expecting some back stories and more character development from “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”.
UPDATE (16th April):
The moment that we’ve all been waiting for has arrived. The trailer for the highly anticipated “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” was released just in time for this year’s Star Wars Celebration.
Needless to say, social media is on fire!
Taking a dark turn, the trailer focuses on the relationship between Luke Skywalker (played by Mark Hamill) and Rey (played by Daisy Ridley). It opens with a closeup of Rey’s palm landing hard on a rock and a close-up of her gasping before switching to the familiar island scene that we saw in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”.
I only know one truth. It’s time for the Jedi to end.
Aside from the profound quote from what sounds like Luke Skywalker’s voice, the clip also offers glimpses of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” characters such as Kylo Ren, Leia Organa, Finn, Poe Dameron, and the droid that is a rolling million-and-one types of cute, BB-8.
Watch:
Starring Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, Gwendoline Christie, and more, “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” is slated to be released on 15th December 2017.
