“Triple 9” is one star-studded heist film indeed.

Judging by its first trailer alone, the movie promises to deliver everything that cinephiles would want to see from an intense action thriller movie.

“Triple 9” is about a crew of dirty cops who is blackmailed by the Russian mob to execute a “virtually impossible heist”. There’s only one way for them to pull it off and it’s by manufacturing a 999, police code for “officer down”.

However, the plan is turned upside down when the unsuspecting rookie they set up to die foils the entire attack. As a result, it triggers a breakneck action-packed finale tangled with double-crosses, greed, and revenge.

Best known for his work on “Lawless” and “The Road”, Australian filmmaker John Hillcoat is directing “Triple 9” based on a screenplay by Matt Cook.

Casey Affleck (“Interstellar“) is leading the film as the rookie cop who joins the dirty cops to pull off the heist while Kate Winslet (“Steve Jobs“) portrays the Russian mob boss. The full cast includes Woody Harrelson (“Now You See Me“), Aaron Paul (“Breaking Bad“), Norman Reedus (“The Walking Dead“), Chiwetel Ejiofor (“Doctor Strange“), Gal Gadot (“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice“), Teresa Palmer (“Warm Bodies“), and Clifton Collins, Jr (“Pacific Rim“).

It’s hard to tell whether “Triple 9” is going to do well at the box office because the film has yet to premiere at any film festivals. However, it does seem like it’s worth watching due to its stellar cast.

Not to mention, it’ll be interesting to see how the action thriller stands out from the “dirty cop” genre with its grimness. Will there be a twist in the film? That’s for us to find out when it hits theatres.
