Malaysian singer Shila Amzah has won big at the 2016 Music Pioneer Awards (音樂先鋒榜)! The ceremony was held in Guangzhou, China earlier this month.
Not only did the songstress cinch the award for “Top 10 Song (Hong Kong and Taiwan)” and “Top 5 Most Popular Female Artiste”, but she also won “Best Female Singer (Hong Kong and Taiwan)”. During the event, Amzah also sang “Say You Love Me Then” (到时说爱我) off her Mandarin album, “My Journey” (心旅).
“I want to thank my parents and my family, my management team in Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur, Shilala HK PTE LTD, as well as my fans from Taiwan, Hong Kong, and China for supporting me and voted for me. Also thank you to all the DJs and media for playing my song,” said the Kuala Lumpur-born singer.
The Music Pioneer Awards is China’s leading radio chart event that is based on results from 24 major radio stations around China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, as well as audience vote. According to The Hive, Amzah gained more than 1 million votes for the “Most Popular Female Artiste” category. Others in the running include Fiona Sit, Joey Yung, Joyce Cheng, Bibi Zhou, Kit Chan, and He Jie.

26-year-old Shila Amzah (real name NurShahila binti Amir Amzah) first rose to fame in China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan when she won the Chinese reality singing competition, “Asian Wave”. She also took part in “I Am a Singer Season 2”, a popular Chinese TV talent show. To date, Shila is the only Malay artiste with the highest number of Mandarin single sales in Hong Kong, China, and Taiwan.
