The expectations for “Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them” were already sky high, and now, it has gotten higher.
In a global fan event last night, it was revealed that the “Fantastic Beasts” series will be expanded from a trilogy into 5 movies. The news, of course, thrilled fans, who went wild and cheered their hearts out when the announcement was made.
The event was held at various cinemas in the US and London, and was attended by the cast of the movie, Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Alison Sudol, Dan Fogler, Colin Farrell, and Jon Voight. They took part in a live Q&A session, and was joined by director David Yates, who also fielded some questions.
“I can confirm it will be 5 new movies. We always knew it was going to be more than 1 movie – we knew that from the start – so we set the trilogy as a sort of placeholder. We’ve now done the plotting properly, so we’re pretty sure it’s going to be 5 movies,” said the author of the Harry Potter universe, J.K Rowling.
She also announced that she’ll take on the role of scriptwriter for all of the movies. She has already completed the script for the 2nd movie, which will take place in a “big capital city”. The sequels are scheduled for 16th November 2018 and 20th November 2020 respectively.
Yates also revealed that Dumbledore and Grindelwald, who are alive during the time period, will appear in the movie. He said, “He is featured in a wonderful scene between Colin and Eddie.”
Those at the event were also offered a glimpse into the movie, as the first 10 minutes of the movie was played for them. According to Variety, the film opened “with investigators tracking the unseen beasts in the countryside, followed by a variety of headlines from 1926 papers and references to the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald.”
