Following the growing interest in food truck dining, our Kuala Lumpur City Hall aka Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) is planning to set up a Food Truck Alley, the first of its kind in the city.
Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said that the Food Truck Alley will likely be based near Jalan Sultan Ismail by the Klang River to complement to the River of Life (RoL) rejuvenation project.
The RoL project aims to clean, beautify, and develop the 10.7km stretch of the Klang and Gombak rivers and turn the Klang River into a vibrant and liveable waterfront that is abuzz with leisure and business activities with high economic value . It’s currently being carried out in 3 phases and is expected to be completed by the end of 2016.
Speaking to reporters at the Kuala Lumpur Food Truck Feast Programme at Dataran Merdeka, Tengku Adnan said, “The Food Truck Alley will have a proper waste disposal system with water and electricity provided for the operators. The concept is quite common in Europe and the United States.”
Sounds like fun! And we’re sure that foodies will be able to appreciate a dedicated food trucks area in the city ;)
Meanwhile, to tide your food truck cravings over, the Kuala Lumpur Food Truck Feast (KLFTF), a festival that’s home to tens of food trucks, opens twice a month (1st and 3rd weekend) at Dataran Merdeka. Details here.
