Zayn Malik was the first pop star from One Direction to release a solo record, with “Mind of Mine” debuting at the top of the Billboard charts. We already know that Harry Styles has been recording new music but it seems that Niall Horan will be the first member from the current 1D quartet to release music in his own right.
According to The Sun UK, the 22-year-old is reportedly in negotiations with Simon Cowell’s company, Syco, about signing a deal for his own music, with his first single expected to be released in 2017.
“Niall is the band’s secret weapon – Modest Management and Syco believe he has what it takes to become a solo star. He has the songwriting and music talent, good looks and cheeky Irish personality which made him a favourite in the States. A deal with Syco is going to be signed in the coming weeks and Niall is already back in the studio writing,” an insider told the publication.

There’s a hit single there too, which will probably be released early next year.
Similarly, Daily Star also reported that Wayne Hector, a prolific songwriter who had previously worked with 1D on some of their biggest hits, has been spending some studio time with Horan. “We are writing together but he wants to do it for himself and not other people at the moment,” said Hector.

To Directioners who are still hoping for a One Direction album, sorry to burst your bubble, but it looks like the band isn’t getting back together anytime soon. The other bandmates are all currently occupied with their respective projects. Liam Payne is taking a break from showbiz and devoting most of his time to his new girlfriend, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini.
Louis Tomlinson is venturing into producing and presenting. “He is considering opportunities both in front of the camera, including documentaries, and behind-the-scenes as a producer,” a source explained.
Harry Styles, on the other hand, is currently filming Christopher Nolan’s new World War II epic “Dunkirk”.
Cowell, who was responsible for putting One Direction together, recently admitted his uncertainty if the boys will ever reunite again, saying, “I don’t know if it’s a hiatus or a break-up, to be honest. I don’t think they’ve had enough time to experience what it’s like not being in the group to really answer that.”
