You know that F.R.I.E.N.D.S reunion news that got everyone flipping out and forgetting how to human for about 24 hours?
Well, we’ve got more deets on the upcoming reunion special titled, “Must See TV: A Tribute to James Burrows” from the man himself, James Burrows.
According to E! Online, James spoke to reporters in a conference call and shed some light on what Courteney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, and Matt LeBlanc got up to when the special taped last week.
“They participated like all the other casts did. They had a question session on the couch with the host where they talked about what it was like working with me,” he admitted.
He didn’t reveal which couch exactly, though we’re hoping that it’s the iconic orange one from Central Perk, oh you know, for good measure.
However, he did go on to say, “Over the first 4 years, they had grown into these enormous stars, and had not grown an ego, so that they still were – and still are – great friends. At the reunion, when they did my special, it was great to see all 5 of them together.”
Though the gathering of Friends stars was incomplete (Matthew Perry was unable to attend, sending a pre-taped message in his place instead) and Marta Kauffman, the series’ co-creator, has stated there will never be a true Friends reunion movie, fans are still holding out with the slightest glimmer of hope for a revival of the series.
Will there ever be one? Unsurprisingly, James said, “I don’t think you should ever go back. I firmly believe in that. They’ve talked to us about a Cheers reunion for years and we don’t want to do one…I don’t think the Friends – I have no control over this…I don’t think they’ll ever want to do a reunion again. It’s what it was and it was a treasure in television…”
Worth a shot (at hoping).
James Burrows directed 15 episodes of F.R.I.E.N.D.S’ first 4 years. The 2-hour primetime star-studded special will celebrate his 1,000th episode.
“Must See TV: A Tribute to James Burrows” is slated to air on 21st February (Sunday) on NBC.
