Take a seat and grab some popcorn – the kind people from Entertainment Weekly just brought us some new official stills from Warner Bros’ upcoming DC Comics film, “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice“.

We don’t need to tell you this, but yes, we almost died from overexcitement looking at these exclusive stills from the Zack Snyder-directed movie. As if that wasn’t enough to bring excitement to the film, the DC Trinity has united to grace the cover of EW’s special double-issue Comic Con Preview this week.

EW was given exclusive access to the film set to talk about the battle between the Caped Crusader and the Man of Steel in this highly anticipated superhero movie with the director and the cast.

Speaking with EW, Snyder revealed that he first pitched the idea during a meeting with franchise co-captains Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer. At that time, he said the idea “was only meant as an Easter egg”:

I said, “What about at the end of the movie we do a scene where there’s a crate full of kryptonite delivered to Wayne Manor”. Everyone was like…”Okay.” Once you say it out loud it’s a problem because you can’t unsay it.

And so, “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” was born.

The word “justice” in the title is no coincidence because a number of Justice League members will be making their appearance in the film too.

Gal Gadot, whose character got killed off in “Fast & Furious 6“, is starring in this movie as Wonder Woman, one of the most prominent members of Justice League. Jason Momoa is also set to appear in the movie as Aquaman, but it is still unclear whether Ezra Miller‘s The Flash will also make a cameo appearance in this star-studded movie.

As “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” marks the beginning of the DC Cinematic Universe, building a franchise into a potential behemoth is no easy work.

Snyder said:

It’s a marathon. No, it’s a marathon within a marathon. Do you know that race from Death Valley to the top of Mount Whitney? It’s, like, 100 miles and it’s from the lowest point in the continental United States to the highest. It’s crazy. Anyway, it’s like that.

As of now, a total of 9 DC Comics films are currently in development, excluding this film and the rumoured “Batman” solo movie.

Meanwhile, the studio hinted at its plot by offering us a glimpse into the movie via the official stills, including our first look at Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor with a full head of hair. There may a romance in the air as one photo shows Ben Affleck‘s Bruce Wayne and Gadot’s Diana Prince flirting at a high-society function.

Comic books fans are quick to notice that this could be a nod to a scene in the 7th episode of “Justice League” Season 2.

Regarding his scene with Gadot, Affleck said:

I love the fact that there was this Thomas Crowne Affair, Bond-y sexy scene that they wrote about two people who are pretending to be two different people who each know the secrets of the other person,

UPDATE (14th July, 4:35pm):

Clay Enos, the set photographer for “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”, took to Instagram to share a new promo shot of Ben Affleck in his Batman suit.

The promo shot was released after Warner Bros. debuted the exclusive Comic-Con trailer of the movie online. In the picture, Batman appears to be wearing a soldier disguise. However, it is still  unclear why he’s wearing that in the movie.
