“Guardians of the Galaxy” fans, you may stop calling the upcoming sequel “Guardians of the Galaxy 2” right about now because director James Gunn has confirmed that the official title is, wait for it, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2“.

Gunn made the announcement on his Facebook page a couple of hours ago, saying that he could make the official reveal following Kevin Feige’s accidental reveal during Ant-Man interviews. He also joking added that he was waiting “For Kevin to mess up.”

If you watched the first “Guardians of the Galaxy“, then you’d know that “Vol.2” is an obvious reference to Guardians of the Galaxy’s soundtrack, Awesome Mix Vol. 1, and the teased Awesome Mix Vol. 2 that appeared at the film’s end. As for the storyline, well, as far as we know, the sequel involves a story of Star-Lord‘s father.

It’s also set to be more emotional that its predecessor as even leading actor Chris Pratt himself was reduced to tears upon reading the script. Of course, Chris Pratt will have a bigger role to play in the upcoming “Guardians of the Galaxy” instalment than just the leading role as he has also revealed that he knows “everything” about the sequel, including some of the tracks that will be on “Awesome Mix Vol. 2″.

He said:

I know some of the songs that are going to be on “Awesome Mix 2″. All I can tell you, because I obviously, I’m not allowed to tell anybody anything, nor would I want to, because it would be a little bit like telling a kid what’s under the tree before Christmas morning. I would encourage people not to poke holes in the paper and peek. Allow yourself the Christmas morning. Don’t ruin it. I will say that his pitch and his idea legitimately put tears in my eyes. It is so good, it’s so good. And I cannot wait to get started on it and I cannot wait for people to see what he’s going to pull off with the second movie. It’s so, so big and so good. From what I understand, they were like, heard it at Marvel and they said nothing. They’re like, “perfect.” There was no micromanaging of the idea, they just love it so much they didn’t even have a note for it. It’s going to be remarkable.

Oh man. We can’t hide our excitement even if we tried!

James Gunn, who directed 2014’s “Guardians of the Galaxy”, will return to write and direct “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2”. The sequel will also see returning stars Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista,Zoe Saldana, Michael Rooker, Sean Gunn, and the voice casts of Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel.
