Comic character Lex Luthor has been brought to life by an array of actors, from the late Lyle Talbot to Academy Award winning actor Gene Hackman to “Smallville” actor Michael Rosenbaum. Having portrayed by so many actors, it is inevitable for fans of the character to have a certain expectation of how their favourite villain will turn out in “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice“.
Fans will be glad to know that the latest incarnation of Lex Luthor won’t be a “silly, villainous” character. This promise comes from Jesse Eisenberg, who will be the next actor to take up the role as one of the most nastiest villains of all time.
Eisenberg is in the midst of promoting his new film titled “The End of the Tour” with Jason Segel (famed for his appearance as Marshall Eriksen in “How I Met Your Mother“). As part of the promotions, he did an interview with MTV, in which he stated that he’s not worried about fans’ expectations about his performance of Lex Luthor as he already “has his own”.
He said:
The expectations that I have are never the same expectations that an audience has. I don’t have expectations for myself to adhere to a comic book character, but a lot of people are interested in how I would coincide with the comic book character. But it couldn’t be farther from my mind, because I’m just playing a role.
He also talked a little about his upcoming portrayal of Lex Luthor, and added that the character is not the comical kind of villain, but is actually one who is spurred on by his feelings:
It’s a really great character that’s written by this guy, Chris Terrio, he’s a phenomenal writer… He loves my character in the same way I love my character. He put a lot of work into it. It’s a great character, there’s an emotional core to the character. It’s not this silly, villainous character.
This is a real depiction of a person who thinks these things. So the challenge is to make it seem real.
From what Eisenberg has revealed, it seems like his version of Lex Luthor will be one to look forward to. Guess we will just have to wait for the film’s release to enjoy his portrayal of the enigmatic bad guy.
“Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice” will see Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, and Laurence Fishburne reprising their respective roles from “Man of Steel” as Superman/Clark Kent, Lois Lane, Martha Kent, and editor-in-chief of “Daily Planet” Perry White. Ben Affleck, Jeremy Irons, and Gal Gadot are joining the existing cast as Batman/Bruce Wayne, butler Alfred Pennyworth, and Wonder Woman/Diana Prince.
The upcoming superhero epic is directed by Zack Snyder, based on a script by Chris Terrio and David S. Goyer. Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder is producing while Christopher Nolan is involved in an advisory role as executive producer.
“The End of the Tour” is slated for release in the US on 31st July 2015 while “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice” will hit cinemas worldwide on 24th March 2016.
