Last year, what began as a simple Facebook message from a diehard Pizza Hut fan’s desire to bottle the scent of freshly baked pizza turned into a marketing opportunity by the PR machine at Pizza Hut Canada. Needless to say, it took the interwebs by storm! After releasing 100 bottles of pizza-scented cologne to fans in Canada, Pizza Hut is now going to make it available in the US too.
The novelty oregano, tomato sauce, and cheese-scented cologne aka “Eau de Pizza Hut” will be available in extremely limited quantities, with only 24 bottles given out daily for a short period of time. Starting 11th February 2013, Pizza Hut is inviting customers to tweet @PizzaHut using the hashtag #LastMinuteLovers with a plea to receive a “Last Minute Lovers Package”.
Pizza Hut’s “Last Minute Lovers Package” will include not only the “Eau de Pizza Hut” but also a USD20 Pizza Hut gift card (for “Big Pizza Sliders” or “Lovers Pizza”). Heh. Isn’t it a, uh, different approach to Valentine’s Day?
Note: Pizza Hut is no stranger to Valentine’s Day promotions. Last year, the chain introduced a USD10,010 Valentine’s Day engagement package that included a ring, a limo, a fireworks show, and of course, pizza.
