Being a celebrity is never easy because you get called out for even the pettiest things. Recently, TWICE (트와이스) member Chaeyoung (채영) shared a photo she took with singer Jeon Somi (전소미), causing a commotion amongst netizens.
The TWICE rapper and the soloist are known amongst fans as close friends, having met as trainees under JYP Entertainment. While they are now under different agencies, Chaeyoung and Somi regularly hang out when they have free time. The duo recently hung out on 1st April, and Chaeyoung took to Instagram to share photos from their get-together. In the pictures the idol shared, the two looked like average best friends hanging out – but one photo stood out for not-so-good reasons.
The image, which was taken in a photo booth, shows both Chaeyoung and Somi lifting their shirts as part of a cheeky pose. While a filter frame covered most of their body, Somi’s bra and chest were visible. The photo caused quite a stir amongst Korean netizens, who criticised the singers for inappropriate behaviour and for exposing themselves in public. As a result of the criticism, Chaeyoung quickly deleted the photo but left the Instagram post up.
Despite that, many netizens were still unhappy, lamenting that she shouldn’t have uploaded the image in the first place. Many also said the two female idols shouldn’t be showing their underwear in a public photo booth as CCTVs may be in place, which could cause issues if the footage leaked. However, some netizens backed Chaeyoung and Somi up, saying the girls might just be having fun and not realising that the photo would be an issue. Some even said such behaviour is typical amongst female friend groups their age.
- “That’s what teenagers do but I guess celebrities do it too”
- “Was it mistakenly uploaded?”
- “This isn’t surprising. Didn’t they do something similar (before)?”
- “Why are you doing that? Aren’t you guys celebrities?”
- “Don’t they know the (photo booth) owner can see them? Doesn’t matter if you’re a celebrity or a regular person”
- “Imagine the person looking at the CCTV”
- “They could’ve taken it for fun. It’s not about being teens but something you do for fun when you’re with your close friends. Also I can’t see the bra.”
What are your thoughts on the photo? Do you think it was too much? Or are netizens overreacting?
