The 2024 Met Gala unfolded with its enchanting exhibition “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” and this year the designers have once again showcased their immense style and creativity. The “Sleeping Beauties” exhibition is a captivating homage to the fashion pieces throughout history that have been lost.
The theme for this year’s Met Gala was “The Garden of Time”, drawing inspiration from the J.G. Ballard 1962 short story of the same title. There were many outstanding, jaw-dropping looks presented at the event, from vintage couture to dresses made entirely out of sand. Here are 10 celebrities who epitomized the spirit of the evening with their unforgettable style statements:
1. Tyla
Tyla was seen in a dress entirely made out of sand for her theme “Sand of Time” but the eye-catching detail of her outfit was her hourglass purse that was actually filled with sand.
2. Bad Bunny
Bad Bunny has set the standards for men’s fashion and broken the basic chain of men’s tuxedos with a custom Maison Margiela Artisanal Collection by John Galliano that gave off the fairytale flair but what stole the show was his shoes which were crafted to resemble goat hooves, further adding to the fairytale theme.
3. Mike Faist
This year at the Met Gala, a recurring accessory was the brooch and Mike Faist took it to an unusual length by wearing a beaded brooch of a radish.
4. Ben Simmons
This Aussie athlete dawned a Thom Browne textured checkered suit with round red glasses, but staying on the “Garden of Time” theme was his clock bag that was set at 4:35pm.
5. J Harrison Ghee
J Harrison Ghee rocks a giant feathered bow symbolizing wings and their wig represents antennas to further elevate the look. A smart play on accessories by having hair be an accessory as well.
6. Reece Feldman
This TikTok star wore pieces from Thom Browne with his platform shoes that had intricate floral detailing. Reece Feldman is no stranger to Thom Browne, this influencer has worn the designer’s pieces on many other occasions as well as interviewed Thom Browne while wearing his pieces. The star of the outfit is the unusual dog bag which was also a recurring accessory seen on the carpet.
7. Kim Kardashian
Kim K is no rookie when it comes to wearing iconic outfits for the Met Gala, every look she has worn for the previous Mets has caused either a stir or applause, this year Kim Kardashian wore a corset top that exaggerated the size of her waist pairing it with an unusual fashion choice a cardigan, that she held draped over her shoulder. The inspiration for this look was to have her show she had the craziest night in a garden and got up the next day to go to work throwing on her “Boyfriend’s sweater” which was essentially what the cardigan represented.
8. Camila Cabello
Camila not only walked the carpet, she weightlifted too. The singer wore a dress that weighed 15 pounds with over 250,000 Swarovski crystals that took a total of 450 hours to make. But the eye-catching part of her outfit was her ice purse that contained a rose in the middle. Made entirely of ice, the singer was not upset about the purse melting throughout the night as she would be left to go home with a rose.
9. Michael Shannon
Michael Shannon wore a custom Balenciaga suit with worn-out hem linings. To compliment the outfit, Michael carried an unusual bag representing a Lays chips bag.
10. Amy Fine Collins
Legendary American Journalist Amy Fine Collins wore a custom Thom Browne piece with a stunning and complimentary oversized shell headpiece.
