Some of you may remember a certain April Fool’s prank by Daboba Malaysia where they introduced their latest “product” which was called the Century Egg Milk Tea. One would, of course, assume that it was just a joke. Turns out, there is such a thing as the Century Egg tea or coffee.
Despite its name, a century egg does not necessarily mean it took 100 years to produce, rather, it just looks like it took a long time to make. Taiwanese singer Jolin Tsai (蔡依林) had the opportunity to try a Century Egg latte drink during her “Ugly Beauty World Tour” and here’s what she thought about it:

Earlier this week, the Queen of C-pop posted a video on her Instagram of her recent visit to China where she took some time to try out some local delicacies. As seen in the video, the singer was presented with a lot of mouth-watering dishes and the first thing she was recommended to try was the Century Egg latte. The drink in the cup appeared to be a normal latte but it was topped with a century egg on a stick which was meant to be crushed and then mixed with the concoction.
Confused, the 43-year-old asked the staff, “Is adding the century egg the same concept as the pearls in bubble tea? Is it sweet or salty?” She first stirred the drink with a straw before taking a sip but as soon as she did, the Taiwanese celeb immediately expressed her disgust. “It’s so weird! I don’t understand why it’s made this way”, she said while laughing. After drinking some water to wash the taste out, she jokingly invited the staff to try the drink themselves.

As seen in the screenshot above, many of her fans were amused by her reaction to the unique drink. For quick reference, according to AsiaOne, the Century Egg latte is considered one of the dark cuisines in China and has been a trend since mid-2023. Many found the drink odd while others were more tolerable but most agreed that they won’t drink it again after the first time.
