We loved her in the 2000s, and we’re going to love her even more! The “Legally Blonde” prequel series has just been announced. Prime Video made the announcement that the series is currently in production with Reece Witherspoon and her company Hello Sunshine, during the Amazon upfront presentation on 14th May 2024. The series would be titled “Elle” and will follow the young Elle Woods as she navigates her high school life.
The series was created by Laura Kittrell, who will also act as showrunner and executive producer. Reece Witherspoon will also act as an executive producer along with Lauren Neustadter, Lauren Kisilevsky and Marc Platt. With all that excitement, here are 7 things we hope to see in the very anticipated series:
1. Her undeniable love for Fashion
If Elle Woods has taught us anything, it’s that you can always look good no matter where you are, even if it makes you stand out in a crowd. And what better way than to see where it all started from? If high school was the year to express yourself when people started to find themselves, how did Elle discover her style? We need to see lots and lots of pink. Has she always been a fan of pink? And, most importantly, that being feminine doesn’t equal being weak. We’d love to see how she tackles that in her adolescent years.
2. Elle Woods and her value for kindness
It’s never okay to be a mean girl, and what other settings are mean girls predominantly on top? High school. Elle Woods has always “killed them with kindness,” and we hope to see more of that in this prequel series. What better way to show the character’s confidence than to witness how she dealt with high school bullies in a classic Elle Woods way? And let’s not forget the friends she had in high school. In the first movie, Elle was a loyal friend, and we hope to see more of that in this prequel.
3. Her “never give up!” spirit
If she had set her goal of getting into Harvard by studying and working hard, it would be interesting to show how she navigated the high school syllabus. Was she always a hardworking student? Did she ever fail, and if she did, how did she bounce back up? To have this character trait in her is what we hope to see more than anything.
4. Her teenage love life
There’s nothing like teenage love, and although she proved herself independent enough, there’s no doubt that Elle Woods had dabbled with a few high school flings. But the question is, how did she deal with them? What were the types of men she would go after? If she mainly got into Harvard to be with her ex-fiance Warner, what else was she capable of doing for love?
5. The iconic Bend & Snap
A quote that we all know and love to this day, “Bend and snap!” was the most iconic moment in the early 2000s. Having this prequel be released about the potential timeline in which the “bend and snap” was created, fans of “Legally Blonde” would die to know how it started, who she tried it on, and where the 83% statistic came from.
6. Recce Witherspoon narrates the story
An ideal series set in the past, with narration by Reese Witherspoon, would complete the show beautifully. Her involvement in this way would not only delight fans but also enhance the storytelling, offering insights into both then and now.
7. Her daughter playing the young Elle Woods
No one else could portray the young Elle Woods as perfectly as Reese Witherspoon’s daughter, with her uncanny identical looks. It would almost feel as though we’ve truly travelled back in time to witness the real Elle Woods in high school.
Release dates of the series have not been shared, and more updates will be coming soon. Are you excited for this series?
