A breakup is never easy – but when you’re a public figure, a breakup can put you in a more vulnerable position. Recently, local YouTuber Soya, a.k.a Soya’s Plan (手癢計劃), shared the news that she has decided to split from Taiwanese YouTuber René (超強) after four years of dating.
The two posted about the breakup on their respective Instagram accounts, sharing the devastating news with their fans. In her post, Soya wrote, “It took me some time to settle down, so I didn’t tell everyone immediately. Thank you to the fans who have loved us for the past four years, (but) the ‘Super Itchy (超癢情侶)’ (Soya and René’s couple name) couple have graduated from the relationship.”
However, the breakup may have ended on good terms as the Malaysian could still joke about the situation, saying, “Actually, it’s quite a bargain. It took us four years to realise we’re not suitable for each other.”
Soya also said she has learnt a ton from the relationship and will continue to be friends with her ex after their breakup. The content creator also reassured fans that she wouldn’t delete the photos the pair took during their relationship, explaining that René was an important person in her life and that, hopefully, her future partner would understand. She ends her post by joking, “Okay, registration (for my new partner) is now open! Boys can participate, but girls may need to be very handsome!”.
On the other hand, René’s post was more sombre than the Malaysian’s. In his Instagram post, the YouTuber wrote, “The past few years have been my happiest time. We have created a lot of memories together, from being friends to getting together to living together.” He also thanked Soya for being with him when he was at his lowest but wished her luck in venturing into her new single life. René also apologised to fans who had hoped to, one day, see the pair tie the knot.
Many fans were shocked to receive the news, with some even wondering if it was a belated April Fool’s joke. The duo became a couple in 2020 and attracted many fans who adored their close relationship. However, despite being saddened by the breakup, many fans also wished them luck in their respective lives.
We also hope the two will find strength after their breakup, but we’re glad the pair still have respect for each other after their split.
