Remember last week when we revealed that Wolverine was originally supposed to lead the next generation of X-Men into battle against Apocalypse?
Aside from the Wolverine changes in the script, a large chunk of other material were also left on the cutting room floor. What were the mutants doing at the mall? Why was Jubilee barely in the movie? A new video was recently released by Mr Sunday Movies to recap several scenes that got deleted from “X-Men: Apocalypse”, plus a bunch of rejected concepts.
Jubilee’s presence was most noticeably missing on the big screen. Played by Lana Condor, fans were disappointed that they didn’t get to see the Asian-American teen show off her sparkly fireworks-like power in the movie.
Although director Bryan Singer said that he wanted “more Jubilee”, the cut had to be made for the overall good of the film. “It’s strange for the audience sometimes because they say, ‘It’s a good scene, why did you remove it?’ But if you sat in a theatre and watched it with all those scenes back in, it may seem good, but slow. And I don’t want the audience to feel that,” explained Singer.
Singer previously revealed that the earlier drafts didn’t even include Jubilee in the script, so it does makes sense that maybe her scenes didn’t fit the flow as well others did. However, the director did assure fans that they’ll get to see Jubilee use her powers on the DVD release.
Besides the mall sequence (which included “a group of break dancers in the mall, and Nightcrawler breakdancing with the break dancers”) that harkened back to Singer’s childhood, there was also another moment scene where Cyclops and Jean Grey were in a record store looking at a Dazzler LP, that unfortunately had to go.
“There’s one really fun beat where, well, she pointed it out, Sophie Turner – who is gorgeous – her strange resemblance to Boy George on the cover of this one album. So we literally have a scene, which you’ll see on the DVD, where Cyclops says, ‘Anyone ever tell you, you look like this?’ (pretends to hold up a record). And she’s like, ‘Scott!’ It’s great,” Singer shared.
The YouTube clip also revealed that Professor X (James McAvoy) was initially set to be the 4th horsemen before they added in Olivia Munn’s Psylocke to the storyline. There were also alternate designs planned for both Psylocke and Apocalypse, but thankfully the final product in the movie turned out much better.

Perhaps we’ll get to see Jubilee amp up her electrical power for future X-men films, like say, X-Men’s spin-off, “The New Mutants”?
