Woodford Reserve Brings Back “The Wonderful Race” To Crown Malaysia’s All-Star Old Fashioned

Woodford Reserve is back with the third edition of “The Wonderful Race,” a nationwide hunt for Malaysia’s top bartenders. This year, participants are challenged to reimagine the classic Old Fashioned and create the ultimate “All-Star” version that showcases creativity and craftsmanship.

“The Old Fashioned has stood the test of time, but we believe the next great version is waiting to be discovered,” said Colton Payne, APAC Marketing Director at Brown-Forman Asia. “This competition celebrates the bartenders who have the power to shape what becomes iconic in our industry.”

Ten finalists will be shortlisted to compete for the national title, with the champion winning an exclusive trip to the Woodford Reserve Distillery in Kentucky, USA, while the first and second runners-up will go on to represent Woodford Reserve at regional events. Submissions for “The Wonderful Race 2025” are open from October 1st–31st, 2025 through the official campaign website.

A Toast to Last Year’s Champion

In 2024, Kelvin Wong from Good Friends Club took home the crown with his inventive “Terra Old Fashioned,” inspired by the theme “Umami Wildwood.” Using local ingredients like pandan leaves, Penang wild honey, and Gula Melaka, Kelvin showed how a timeless classic can be reimagined with a distinctly Malaysian touch.

This year, only ten of the most creative cocktails will make it to the national finals—and the stakes are high. The national champion will earn an exclusive trip to the Woodford Reserve Distillery in Kentucky, while the first and second runners-up will go on to represent Malaysia at regional events.

This October, Woodford Reserve invites bartenders and cocktail lovers alike to join the celebration as Old Fashioned Month returns. Partner bars across Malaysia will be serving their own All-Star creations—a toast to innovation, artistry, and the Old Fashioned that never goes out of style.

Drink responsibly, and here’s to another wonderful month ahead.
