A female netizen recently shared a scary incident she had while at a local gym. Apparently, she had been taking a shower when she spotted someone recording her with a phone! Although the perpetrator was found and confronted, she decided to post about the incident to warn others as well.

Facebook user Cae Lyn stated she had the encounter on 6th February in the evening. At the time, she had been by herself at a local gym near 1 Utama. Cae explained she had gone to the showers after her workout. However, a few minutes later, she realised she was being recorded.

“I was washing my hair with (hot) water. When the temperature was too high, I turned around to adjust it. When I turned back to face the door, I saw a moving white object at the bottom corner of the door,” she recounted. “(It) was a white iPhone! (All) three cameras were facing me!” In shock, Cae had shouted at the person and the phone vanished from her view.

The Malaysian quickly covered herself up but was still shaken from the incident. After a quick call to her boyfriend, she went to talk to the gym staff about the incident. Thankfully, they were very cooperative and offered to show her the CCTV footage to find the perpetrator. From the footage, they saw a man lingering outside the women’s toilet, before entering it when no one was looking. He reportedly stayed inside for a few minutes.

Cae Lyn then took the issue to the authorities. The next day, they asked her to come in to meet the perpetrator. To her surprise, the man apologised as soon as he saw her. “Sorry, (I’m) really sorry, you can slap me or punch me, whatever you want,” he supposedly told her. Cae then took the opportunity to check his phone, hoping to find footage from the encounter. Unfortunately, she was unsuccessful.

The man claimed the phone was fairly new, he had only bought it last month. However, Cae did discover that his phone had two particular apps downloaded. Discreet – Black screen camera, an app which allows the phone to look like it isn’t on while it takes footage, and My Camera Pal –  Look Busy! which makes it seem like the user is doing something else while it records.

“Obviously, it’s software for secretly taking pictures and recording videos, right? Will a good person (use) these software? What shady things need to be secretly recorded like this?” Cae asked. She then confronted the man about the incident. The man claimed he had “accidently entered the wrong washroom” before he “realised” he was in the wrong one. He also claimed it was the first time he had attempted to peep and record someone in the toilet.

When asked what he had planned to do with the footage, the man hesitated. “I just want to watch it on my own,” he finally admitted. However, Cae found his answer suspicious as she claimed he was already seeing someone. She also discovered he had joined the gym before her and did not believe he could still mix up the bathrooms.

Unfortunately, despite her suspicions, there was no concrete evidence he had recorded her. The man claimed he hadn’t been able to get any footage because she shouted at him. “I can’t confirm if it’s true,” she stated. “After all, from the time he left until the afternoon the next day, he had plenty of time to clear/remove the footage.”

However, the two came to an agreement. Cae and the man would both report the incident on their respective Facebook accounts. The man also promised to release an apology video. Although he did so, he later removed it and deleted his account completely. To Cae’s annoyance, the man also got his girlfriend to attempt smoothening the situation over with Cae. Needless to say, it didn’t go over well.

Cae added that she later realised the man might have premediated the encounter. From more CCTV footage, Cae shared she spotted him watching her at the gym. He was also seen waiting at the lockers outside the restroom on that day. According to Cae, he had only gone into the toilet once he was sure the coast was clear.

“The things that were promised were reneged,” Cae lamented. “It can be seen that this person has no sense of responsibility at all, let alone respect for girls!” Cae shared that the incident has scared her and that she no longer dares to go out alone. She went on to warn others to be careful, both of similar incidents and of the man in particular.

We hope Cae will be able to find a more secure place to workout in the future. in the meantime, we sincerely hope everyone remains cautious about such matters!
