Before renting an apartment or a room, it’s good practice to look up more information about the place and the landlord to know what you’re getting from the deal. Twitter user @/tallyblurnisa recently shared her terrible experience with her former landlord of a Kepong apartment, hoping that no one else would go through what she did.
The Twitter thread started with the user, Nisa, writing, “Anyone looking for a room for rent in the Kepong area, avoid this unit. This small room is RM550. The house is very mouldy, no proper (air circulation) and the homeowner is terrible. Selfish and irresponsible.” The woman revealed that the unit is on the 20th floor of the Block A building at the Residensi Metro Kepong apartment complex.

According to the former apartment tenant, the major issue with the unit is that the landlord sealed the balcony so the apartment does not receive any sunlight. The unit’s bedroom and bathroom are reportedly mouldy, even after cleaning, and any food item left in the apartment also grew mould. Adding to the issue is the landlord, whom Nisa called out in her tweets for lying about the rental terms and ignoring her messages after the tenant asked for her deposit back.
In the Twitter thread, Nisa shared multiple screenshots of her conversation with homeowner Nadia, lamenting her lack of responsibility towards her tenants. Nisa revealed that the issue started with the parking system and the rental agreement. She said that she had agreed to rent a room as Nadia promised there would be free parking at the building, but it turns out, there is a daily fee as the free parking is only available for those who rent the master bedroom.

As Nisa had already signed the agreement, she could only proceed with the rental but added that the parking issue became a burden for her, especially after getting fined for illegal parking. Meanwhile, Nadia seemed indifferent towards her concerns, even after she wanted to move out. The two agreed that Nisa would move out by the end of January but let go of her deposit but Nadia later went back on her words and said she would give back half the deposit as long as Nisa moved out by the end of December.
However, the problem continued despite Nisa moving out as she revealed that Nadia would not pay the deposit back. She said she tried contacting the landlord for weeks but to no avail. The homeowner only responded after Nisa called her out on TikTok, but Nadia still avoided returning the deposit.
The tweets attracted attention from netizens, who shared their reactions to the issue. Many sympathised with Nisa, sharing their similar experiences dealing with terrible landlords. Many netizens also urged her to lodge a report against Nadia, noting that she violated laws like partitioning the rental unit and endangering the tenant’s health by allowing mould to grow in the unit.

According to the Twitter thread, Nisa has yet to receive her deposit – but added that she will proceed with lodging a report with the Ministry of Housing and Local Government towards Nadia and her husband. We hope the authorities will act upon irresponsible and greedy landlords like Nadia.
