As WhatsApp continues to update its application, it’s unfortunate that older smartphones will no longer be able to support the Meta-owned, messaging application.
Starting this week, WhatsApp will stop working for several Android and iOS devices that run on old OS versions. As such, those affected will either need to upgrade their phone/tablet or get a newer device that supports the app.
Having said that, this change will likely only affect a minority few. After all, devices that run on Android 4.0.4 and older versions were released in the market around a decade ago (2011 or 2012). Users who have been using their smartphones for around 10 years or more are advised to back up their chat history to avoid losing all chats and media.
If you happen to use these following devices (listed below), you’ll need a new phone if you want to continue using Whatsapp:
