If you’re a millennial or grew up in the early 2000s, you’ve probably watched “The Lizzie McGuire Movie”, released in 2003. The film serves as the finale to the series, which starred Hilary Duff and had been airing since 2001. One of its most iconic moments is when the main character takes to the stage in Rome to perform “What Dreams Are Made Of”.
Although the song was included on the soundtrack, did you know that it was never officially released as a single? Instead, “Why Not” served as the film’s promotional single. Nevertheless, it remains one of the most memorable songs in Disney history, and it seems fans will be hearing a new version very soon.
Singer-actress Hilary Duff previously announce she is returning to music. She recently released her brand-new single, “Mature”, the lead track from her upcoming album “Luck… or Something”, set for release in February 2026. Alongside the album, the star will also be issuing limited-edition vinyl copies, featuring exclusive newly re-recorded versions of two of her biggest hits: “What Dreams Are Made Of” and “Sparks”.
Shortly after the announcement, fans were overjoyed, as “What Dreams Are Made Of” is one of their favourite Hilary Duff songs. Many reminisced about their childhood at the news that a new version of the track would be released. Few also noted that Hilary is not the first Disney alum to re-record an early hit; sister duo Aly & AJ released a more mature and explicit version of their song “Potential Breakup Song” back in 2020. While it is unlikely that the new version of “What Dreams Are Made Of” will feature explicit lyrics, given the song’s message, fans can certainly expect a fresh take in terms of production and vocals.

A snippet of the new version can be heard on Hilary Duff’s official website. Hopefully, the song will also be released as a promotional single, as it is sure to climb the charts. While we wait for the official release, you can listen to the original version below:
