Mandopop icon Wang Lee Hom (王力宏) had a painful experience at his recent Chengdu concert. Just as he started the performance, the star suffered a heavy fall after tripping over a safety wire, leaving him with a bloody ear and cheek for the rest of the show.

On 4th July 2026 (Saturday), Wang Lee Hom took the stage at the Dong’an Lake Sports Park main stadium for the Chengdu leg of his “The Best Place II” concert tour. Unfortunately, during the opening performance, the star suffered a horrible fall, sparking concern among the crowd of over 40,000 fans. Wang Lee Hom would later share an account of the experience through an Instagram post.

The 50-year-old wrote, “Tonight during the opening of the show, my foot got snagged in one of my own safety cables, and I went down hard. My head slammed into the edge of the metal stage, and of all places, it was my left ear that took the impact.” Wang Lee Hom continued, saying the impact from the fall, coupled with his in-ear monitor, shattered the cartilage in his outer ear.

Despite bleeding profusely from the fall, the singer got back up and continued performing. Remarkably, Wang Lee Hom noted that he felt no pain, likely due to adrenaline from the show. After completing the show, he went straight to the hospital to receive attention for his injury. According to the singer, he received 27 stitches on his ear and another 12 stitches on his face for a total of 39 stitches.

Thankfully, there weren’t any more serious injuries, as a CT scan showed no damage to the brain or the skull. Wang Lee Hom ended his post, thanking his fans and the public for their concern. The singer-songwriter also shared photos of his injury, including a close-up photo of his ear and cheek after receiving the stitches. Wang Lee Hom would continue his concert the next evening (Sunday, 5th July 2026) after doctors confirmed he’s fit to perform.

Wang Lee Hom’s agency also provided more details about the incident, explaining, “Preliminary investigations indicated that the accident was caused by improper operation of the wire harness, resulting in the artist accidentally falling during the descent from the equipment.” The agency also confirmed that it will take appropriate measures against the staff responsible for the accident following an internal investigation.

The agency also said it’ll further refine the on-site safety management system for the rest of the tour. We wish Wang Lee Hom a smooth and quick recovery from his injuries.
