In Malaysia, the practice of eating in public during Ramadan has always been a hot topic of debate among netizens. Some believe that no one (regardless of faith) should eat in public during the fasting month in order to honour others who are fasting around them.

On the other hand, there are also some who just simply don’t care if you’re fasting or not as it’s none of their concern. But that’s not the case. A female TikToker decided to make it public by exposing a group of men in military uniform for allegedly skipping fasting. “Fasting is not compulsory if you’re serving for the country,” the TikTok user, Dina Sayang, sarcastically commented.

Though the original video has since been removed, another TikTok user, Epul7899, uploaded a video in response to Dina Sayang’s post, and it’s now gaining the attention of many again. In his video, Epul explained that not all Armed Forces officers are Muslims. Some of them also come from different cultural and religious backgrounds including Kadazan, Iban and Bidayuh.

“You should have asked them whether they are Muslim or not. Your action (of posting the video on TikTok) seems to tarnish the name of the Malaysian Armed Forces (Angkatan Tentera Malaysia, ATM). You should examine the matter carefully beforehand. You’re posting the video for fun and also for the sake of creating content, but you should remember one thing. If the officers lodge a report, you can be charged under Section 223 of the Multimedia act,” said the male social media user.

Many netizens couldn’t agree more with Epul’s points on this case. Read what they said here:
