Malaysian fans always get excited whenever K-pop celebrities try our local delicacies or try to speak in Malay. Previously, GOT7’s Mark Tuan had the chance to play one of our traditional games, Batu Seremban, and now more Korean stars are joining in on the fun.
On New Year’s Day (Wednesday, 1st January), Netflix Malaysia posted three videos on their TikTok channel showing the cast of “Squid Game” season 2 playing several traditional games that are popular in Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. First up was Park Sung-hoon (박성훈), who plays Hyun-ju in the hit Netflix series, playing Batu Seremban.

The actor did four rounds of the game, where he threw one stone in the air, picked up as many stones as he could, and caught the tossed one back in his hand. The star was successful in all four attempts, much to his own surprise. “I love you, Malaysia,” he said at the end of the video. Next up was Kang Ha-neul (강하늘), who tried his hand at Guli Panjang, a game where players must hit the most marbles with the ones in their hands from a distance in order to win.
Unfortunately, the 34-year-old, who plays Kang Dae-ho, failed all his attempts and jokingly begged not to be shot by the masked Squid Game guard who was monitoring his progress. Finally, Yang Dong-geun (양동근) was tasked with completing the last game, which was Sepak Takraw, a game where players must use only their feet, knees, shoulders, chest, and head to touch the ball. “This is a matter of life and death!” he said, referencing the consequences if players failed to complete a task in the series.

The actor failed his first attempt and blamed it on his shoes. In the next round, he attempted the challenge barefoot, but unfortunately, it was to no avail, as he failed once more. Dong-geun was then seen “weeping” on the floor in defeat. From these challenges alone, it appears that Park Sung-hoon would have a chance at surviving in a real-life Squid Game contest.
Whether the cast succeeded or failed, it was still very entertaining for Malaysian fans to watch their favourite Korean actors play our country’s traditional games. Which one of these was your favourite?
