While opinions on the film are divided, some have wondered what the leading actors thought of the final cut. Joaquin Phoenix (Joker/Arthur Fleck) and Lady Gaga (Harleen “Lee” Quinzel) recently sat down for an interview to promote the film, and when asked if the film met their expectations, here’s what they had to say:
During their interview with Good Morning Britain, which was posted yesterday (Thursday, 3rd October), the host asked the two brilliant artists if “Joker: Folie à Deux” was everything they had expected it to be. Instead of providing a direct answer, the co-stars exchanged smiles and giggles, seemingly unsure how to respond without being too candid.
Eventually, Joaquin gave his answer saying, “I was there. I made the movie. It’s so hard to talk about but I feel that we have achieved what we set out to do [for this movie].” The Oscar winner then deftly shifted the conversation to the singing aspects of the film, which prompted the host to ask Lady Gaga about the companion album “Harlequin”. The moment in the interview quickly went viral on Twitter with many being amused by the stars’ response.
Some have speculated that this may be why the Oscar-nominated actress has focused more on her new music rather than the film itself in recent interviews. Others praised Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga for their outstanding performances and expressed hope for a director’s cut to reveal what the film could have been.
