It’s always important to read the labels on clothes before placing them in the washing machine or dryer as some of them might end up being damaged. It’s also worth reminding that not every non-clothing item can simply be thrown into a washing machine with the rest of the dirty laundry.
Unfortunately, this couple had to learn the hard way after blowing up a washing machine at a laundromat because they put their baby’s playpen in it. Here’s what happened:
A few days ago, a woman posted several videos of an incident that occurred at a Mister Wash laundromat in Singapore. The videos showed that the premise was flooded with soap water, glass shattered on the floor and a large object with wheels still spinning in one of the washing machines. According to the Facebook user, the object in question was actually a baby playpen.
The woman, who goes by Olivia Law, shared that she was simply passing by the area when she suddenly heard a loud explosion coming from the establishment. She then saw the floor covered in soap and shattered glass after one of the washing machines’s doors blew open. Thankfully, no one was hurt when it happened. According to Olivia, the incident occurred because a couple placed their baby playpen into the washing machine despite being warned by other customers about how dangerous it was.
It was also said that the couple was confused as to how the large metal object could cause the washing machine to blow up which baffled many. The original poster clarified that no one attempted to stop the machine from operating as they could slip and fall from the soapy water and risk getting electrocuted. “This washing machine was probably worth more than 10 thousand SGD so the lesson here is to not be lazy to read the warning,” she added.
Netizens were both baffled and amused by the incident with many also criticising the couple for not having common sense that one should not put a playpen in a washing machine. Others hope that the owner(s) of the laundromat will take legal action against the couple for damaging the store’s property.
Speaking to 8World, the owners confirmed the incident and are currently in discussion with the couple on how they can compensate for the damage. It was reported that, for the time being, the owners will not be taking any actions against them.
