Imagine looking forward to a fun day at a theme park but having your plans ruined by malfunctioning rides. Well, some Malaysians say it happens fairly often at this local theme park.
Recently, TikTok user Jaclyn posted a video about an incident involving the Samba Gliders ride at Genting Skyworlds Theme Park. In her video, she shared that the ride had a technical issue and stopped operating, leaving riders stranded in the air.

The video also included footage of the victims hanging from the top of the track, waiting to be rescued. Jaclyn added the ride had been closed right before her turn to get on, leaving her disappointed. The video was reposted on Twitter, leaving many shocked at the incident. However, it also led to netizens sharing their opinions of Genting SkyWorlds’s rides.
According to Twitter user Arif, another Genting ride had broken down previously, leaving riders stuck in the rain. The ride is believed to be the Epic Voyage to Moonhaven and had stopped for over 15 minutes due to technical issues. The ride has indoor and outdoor tracks, but the riders got stuck during the outdoor portion, which left them sitting in the rain.
A quick search on social media revealed another Genting Skyworlds ride that had also malfunctioned and left riders stranded mid-air. The ride in question was the ESD Global Defender as seen in the video posted in late August by TikTok user Zamilaismali. Unfortunately, there was no information on how long the ride was stuck.

All these incidents had many netizens lamenting about the theme park’s rides, saying that the amount of times Genting rides have suffered technical issues is worrying. While theme park rides malfunctioning are common, some think Genting SkyWorlds rides malfunction a lot more often. Many also contemplated the reasons behind the frequent issues, noting the lack of maintenance and unpredictable weather as the causes.
