There’s been a lot of snake sightings lately. Previously, a giant python was spotted slithering on a hill around a residential area in Shah Alam, Selangor. Terrifying as they are, large snakes are thankfully more visible and thus easier to spot and avoid.

Unfortunately, the same thing cannot be said about snakes of smaller size as many of them can be found hiding in tight areas around the house. Imagine how horrified this family must’ve felt after finding a snake hiding underneath their child.

Two days ago, a video posted by @mummy_miazaraa on her TikTok channel went viral. The video showed a toddler lying down on the floor but upon closer inspection, a black snake can be seen slithering underneath the child. The young boy’s foot was seen holding down the reptile’s tail while his back was slightly elevated to either give it space to move or possibly avoid provoking it.

“The child was under God’s protection,” the TikTok user wrote. It was understood that the video was captured by a caretaker while the parents were away. It was then reported that the child is safe and the snake has been captured by firefighters. According to local news reports, the tiny serpent underneath the toddler was a type of venomous cobra, and that the incident took place at Taman Serai Perdana Bagan Serai, Perak.

When the video circulated online, many were terrified for the child’s well-being, asking for an update if the snake has been caught. Others applaud both the caretaker and the boy for remaining calm in a dangerous situation.

After the video went viral, the mother of the child responded to netizens’ concerns on TikTok. She confirmed that the snake was indeed venomous and that she was extremely grateful that her son is safe. We’re glad to hear nothing terrible happened to anyone in the house during the incident, especially the child.

When faced with a snake intrusion, be sure to call the authorities for assistance. If possible, you can also send a photo or video to them so they can further assess the situation. Most importantly, remain calm and do as you’re instructed by the Fire and Rescue Department while waiting for their arrival.
