A few months ago, Malaysian-born comedian Nigel Ng, aka Uncle Roger, opened up his first restaurant at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. Fuiyoh It’s Uncle Roger Restaurant has attracted a number of content creators since its launch with some having mixed thoughts about the food, price and service.
Regardless, business appears to be doing well, as the celebrity recently opened a second outlet at MyTOWN and a third at IPC Shopping Centre. If you’re curious about the pricing, in a TikTok video posted by @/bestfoodmy, Uncle Roger revealed that the food at the MyTOWN branch is sold at a lower price than at Pavilion KL. Here’s what he said:
After the official opening ceremony on Sunday (15th December), Nigel Ng, in character as his alter ego, sat down to explain the key differences between the newly opened outlet and the first one. The comedian highlighted that the price of his signature fried rice dishes would be RM16 – RM2 cheaper than the branch at Pavilion KL.
“There’s a discount here. From RM18 to RM16. This is because MyTOWN isn’t as high-end as Pavilion, where stores like Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and Hermes are located on the ground floor. Here at MyTOWN, there’s Mr. DIY, so the price cannot be too expensive,” he said. The 33-year-old elaborated that the prices at each outlet would differ depending on the location. “The portions at the MyTOWN branch are also larger because Malaysians love their rice, so they’ll definitely enjoy it more,” he added.
Netizens reacted to the video, with some praising the business owner for doing his research on the malls before setting prices for the dishes on the menu. Others expressed disappointment, saying that RM16 at MyTOWN is barely any different if they were to dine at Pavilion KL. Many also found it humorous how he roasted Mr. DIY. There were also TikTok users who were distracted by Uncle Roger speaking Malay, as this was the first time they had heard him speak the language.
Nigel previously stated that he plans to open 15 to 20 more restaurants across Malaysia in 2025, so it remains to be seen whether there will be any significant differences in pricing between the outlets. Nonetheless, we hope the business continues to improve both the quality of the food and the service.
