Earlier this week, renowned South Korean singer G-DRAGON (지드래곤) dropped the news that his long-awaited album is finally coming. The studio album, “Übermensch”, will be released later this month, on 25th February 2025 (Tuesday). Given that this is his first full-length release after a long hiatus, it’s no surprise that the public is beyond excited.

Fans and critics alike look forward to hearing what the BIGBANG (빅뱅) star has up his sleeves with this new album, as he’s known for his unique musicality and one-of-a-kind style. While G-DRAGON prepares to drop more details about his album, here’s what we know so far about “Übermensch”:

This Is G-DRAGON’s First Album In Nearly 12 Years

As mentioned, “Übermensch” is G-DRAGON’s first full-length album after many years – 11 years and 5 months, to be exact. His last studio album, “Coup d’Etat”, was released in September 2013. This drop is also the star’s first album since leaving YG Entertainment in 2023. As such, this new album will be his first released under Galaxy Corporation and distributed by Empire Distributions.

The Album’s Title Refers To A Philosophical Term

Ever the true artist, G-DRAGON also has a reason for choosing the album title. According to sources, “Übermensch” refers to the term coined by philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, meaning an individual who transcends their limitations. With this new album, the superstar will push his boundaries as an artist, returning to the music scene stronger than ever.

The Album Logo Has A Deeper Meaning

G-DRAGON has also unveiled the logo for the new album. At first look, the logo appears to depict two individuals standing and facing each other. However, some fans have theorised that the two individuals represent G-DRAGON’s two sides – his stage persona and his real self, Kwon Ji-Yong (권지용). Some fans suggested the logo reflects the combination of G-DRAGON and Kwon Ji-Yong.

While “Übermensch” was only officially announced on 4th February 2025 (Tuesday), rumours of the album came about last November. Some fans who dug around the internet even found the alleged tracklist for the album. As shown in a screenshot, the album will allegedly have around eight tracks, including G-DRAGON’s two chart-topping tracks, “POWER” and “Home Sweet Home”. However, this tracklist remains unconfirmed, so there will likely be changes.

Long-Time G-DRAGON Collaborator, Choice37, Confirmed His Involvement

For this highly-anticipated album, G-DRAGON will again work with some of his long-time collaborators. YG Entertainment producer Choice37 has seemingly confirmed that he has worked on the new album, sparking interest amongst fans. Choice37 has long worked with the K-pop icon and even produced his two recent hits. However, it’s unclear whether he has worked on any other songs on the upcoming album.
