There’s no denying that driving on single lane roads can be very dangerous. No matter how careful you are, accidents can happen, especially when it involves heavy vehicles.

Through a post on Twitter, a user named Jalal Misai shared some tips and tricks on how to safely overtake heavy vehicles while on the road. “We should be aware of signals given by heavy vehicle drivers infront. Drivers in the east coast area (Bentong and Gerik) seem to be familiar with these signals,” he tweeted.

The first thing to take note is the use of the hazard light. “It shows that the situation might be dangerous. You should not follow the vehicle too closely,” says the video posted by Jalal. “It’s likely that the lorry is having difficulty going up the hilly road.” He added, “If the driver gives the signal to turn right, it indicates that there’s a danger at the front and we shouldn’t overtake them. On the other hand, if the driver turns their left signal on, it’s probably safe to overtake them.”

Jalal’s post has since gone viral on social media, garnering over 23k retweets at the time of writing (Monday, 16th January). The post was also flooded with many netizens detailing the experiences on the road. According to one netizen, even the lorry drivers would encourage other road users to overtake them to avoid being slowed down.

We sure hope the tips shared by the Twitter user will useful! 🙂
