It’s been nearly 50 years since cinema and martial arts icon Bruce Lee (李小龙) passed away, leaving behind a legacy in film. However, his death is still shrouded in mystery, with the public still wondering why and how the legend died at such an early age.
Earlier this week, Hong Kong broadcaster TVB premiered a new show titled “Ctrl+F The Truth” that dives into several talked-about cases in the country’s history. For its first case, the show discussed the mysterious death of Bruce Lee. The film icon died on 20th July 1973 at the young age of 32. There was no official cause of death, but it was concluded that Bruce Lee died from cerebral oedema.

At the beginning of the episode, hosts Anthony Fong and Vinky Wong mentioned that there are many theories and suspicions about Bruce Lee’s death. As part of their investigation, the program obtained court documents and testimonies about Bruce Lee’s death from 14 people, including his wife Linda Lee and film producer Raymond Chow. Raymond was also the one who rushed the actor to the hospital, right before he was pronounced dead.
After diving into the circumstances of Bruce Lee’s death, the show summarised the sequence of Bruce Lee’s death, revealing that he had already passed away while he was at the home of actress Betty Ting. The program also discussed the suspicion about how Raymond had concealed the actor’s medical history when at the hospital. Months before his death, the star collapsed on set and had seizures, but this information wasn’t disclosed to doctors.

Renowned HK doctor Michael Mak, who was on duty at Queen Elizabeth Hospital during Bruce Lee’s death, brought up three of his suspicions about the case. One of his suspicions was regarding Dr Eugene Chu, who tried to resuscitate Bruce Lee at Betty’s home. He revealed that Dr Eugene had a lack of urgency about the actor’s death, which was puzzling given the star’s background and condition.
While the show couldn’t determine what exactly happened to Bruce Lee, it received praise for its detailed investigation and reporting. Meanwhile, fans continued to mourn the death of the icon and honour the impact he had in the film industry. Check out the two “Ctrl+F The Truth” episodes on Bruce Lee’s death below:
