Many of us adopt a skincare routine to improve our skin’s appearance. While some prefer to get products from pharmacies, others prefer to source their skincare products from locally-owned businesses, believing they may contain fewer chemicals and harmful ingredients. However, as this woman shows, that’s not always the case.

Since November, TikTok user Rajeswary Appahu has been sharing her experience of using products from a locally-owned skincare brand, Glory Cosmetics, which she claimed is selling products with harmful ingredients.

In several TikTok videos, she shows how her skin developed severe acne after using products from Glory Cosmetics, a business based on TikTok. According to a video posted, Glory Cosmetics claims their products are made in France and approved by the Ministry of Health. However, Rajeswary revealed that a laboratory test from the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA) proves the products are from a factory in Thailand.

Rajeswary also shared testimonies from other customers who have suffered the same results after using the brand. For months, the TikTok user has been chasing after the company, demanding them to take responsibility for causing severe skin damage to their customers’ skin. However, the company dismissed the claims, even saying this was a smear campaign against their brand.

The brand has also continued selling their products on TikTok while allegedly blocking and deleting comments that call them out for endangering others with their products. Rajeswary has also lodged a complaint with the Ministry of Health but hasn’t received a response.

Twitter users have also reacted to the issue, with many voicing concerns for the affected users. Some netizens also urged others to be wary of local cosmetic brands, especially if they are not available at reputable stores, as they may contain harmful ingredients like mercury. However, others defended locally-owned brands, saying many have proven efficacy and are backed by proper research. There are also comments saying that Rajeswary was to blame for her skin condition because she bought from an unknown brand without doing proper research beforehand.

We hope that through this example, the authorities can take action against irresponsible companies selling harmful products.
