What used to be fun holiday destination for families, has now turn into a scene from a post-apocalyptic movie – we’re referring to the Carnivall Waterpark. There have been a number of theme parks and waterparks in Malaysia that were left abandoned due to issues such as poor management or even the Covid-19 pandemic.

Speaking of Covid, this waterpark in Kedah has since joined the list of abandoned tourist attractions after it was shut down a few years ago. Here’s what it looks like now:

TikToker @superscarei or Rei is known to post videos of abandoned or seemingly haunted places around Malaysia. One of their latest videos has also been featured on popular Instagram page Deserted & Abandoned Places. The video in question showed the current eerie state of what used to be The Carnivall Waterpark in Sungai Petani, Kedah.

As seen in the post above, the waterpark has been left unattended and unkept since 2020 or 2021 due to the Covid-19 lockdown. The 16-ride park used to be part of the Cinta Sayang Resort, which is still in operation. Sadly, the waterpark was left to rot and is now surrounded by tall grass. As pointed out by the content creator, there was no official announcement regarding The Carnivall Waterpark’s closure and after a quick check, we can confirm that this is true.

After the video went viral, netizens began reminiscing about the times they spent there with their friends and family. Unsurprisingly, many had no idea that the waterpark is no longer operational since there was no official announcement of its closure. Others shared how they used to frequent there when they were young. There was even a case of a child drowning at the park back in 2018 as reported by Berita Harian. That information alone would make anyone assume that the park is also haunted.

It is rather strange that the Cinta Sayang Resort has never properly addressed the state of The Carnivall Waterpark. They did, however, post job vacancies for the park back in 2022 on Facebook, possibly hoping to revive the once lively attraction. Unfortunately, there hasn’t been much update since so we can assume that plans didn’t fall through.
